My first experience with foreign languages was in school. When I was twelve years old, I started studying a second language, French in my case, in sixth grade (E.G.B.)
There were only three classes a week, but I thought that French was more interesting than the other subjeccts, I wonder if it was just because it was something new for me or maybe because I felt comfortable speaking another language.
I continued studying French for three years in Primary Education. In summers my aunts and uncles from France came to visit us, and even I had the chance to practice French with them, I was embarrassed and I preferred to leave the second language for school.
Years later, I realized that I did not have the need to communicate in French with my aunts and uncles because they spoke Spanish perfectly.
When I was fourteen I finished school and in High School I had the choice of having English as a second language.
My English teacher was amazing. Although we were many students in class, his lesson were fun, excited and very participative. He always tried to create communicative situations where English were an important tool for communication.
I remember the celebration of "The foreign languages´ week" as an event that we approached to the French and English culture, and we involved in different activities, like theatre, dances, games...
It was on that occasion where I had my first cup of tea. I thought that tea was a horrible drink... Who was going to tell me that years later, having a good English tea would become a daily ritual that I enjoy!
After college I decided to travel abroad to learn more about the culture and the English language.
I lived in New England (USA) for six months with an American family with three little girls. During that time I attended several courses of English as a second language. I also attended to the Elementary School in a small town as observer. It was a wonderful opportunity to see how classes were organized, the methods that american teachers used, the different resources they had... and compare with the spanish school.
